Rooms in Granada
Granada is a rich city in terms of its artistic and cultural exhibitions. The city is best known nationally for the prestigious university and internationally for the Alhambra, a large citadel constructed by the Moorish kingdom in the 14th century. The Alhambra is located to the east of the centre of Granada, atop the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Prior to its existence as the Nasrid royal palace, the Alhambra served as the military fortification for the city, and visitors can still look out over the city from its walls. The royal court expanded the walled fortress greatly, adding the Generalife, the Royal complex, which featured hot and cold running water and pressurized showers, the Hall of Ambassadors, and the Court of Lions. Though much has been altered over centuries of Catholic rule, much of the Alhambra is believed to exist as it was conceived. In the city centre, the Granada Cathedral was constructed over the mosque destroyed after re-conquest in 1492. It was built in the Spanish Renaissance style, contains many interesting strange features for those familiar with architecture.
