Description
Please note that, for obvious reasons, we prefer to accept bookings from those who have a decent Wimdu profile. So BEFORE booking, please write to me with a little bit of a background (especially if you don't yet have an Wimdu profile).
With the CBD just 3km away (either a short tram trip, bike ride or lovely half-hour walk), Richmond is the best place to experience Melbourne.
Our place is surrounded by cafes, restaurant and shopping strips (Bridge Road, Swan Street, Victoria Street), shops, boutiques, bars and pubs. We have a lot of natural light, in a very well-maintained building, full of classic antique and vintage pieces. We're also incredibly easy to get to from Melbourne Airport (details provided in directions upon confirmation).
Guest are welcome to our:
- wifi
- tea/coffee/sugar/milk/Vegemite etc
- fruit (whatever we have on the day)
- kitchen and laundry facilities
- bicycles (and a skateboard if you feel so inclined)
- hairdryer and straightener in the top drawer of your Art Deco dresser
The guest room is bright and well-furnished, and guests are provided with towels and locally-made organic soaps. We have a Lonely Planet, Frommer's and lots of local guide books, booklets and maps.
There's kitchen cupboard space for guests who want to do some of their own cooking, and everyone is welcome to use our condiments and fresh herbs from our little herb garden out back.
Bridge Road (famous for discount shopping, cafes and restaurants) is literally at the doorstep, then Victoria Street ('Little Saigon' - the best Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine outside of Asia!) is just a few blocks away, as is Swan Street (the grungier side of Richmond with pubs, live gigs and footy fans from the MCG). The three strips are parallel - needless to say we have loads of great places to recommend!
The tram to St Kilda (which goes along the entirety of renowned shopper's delight Chapel Street) stops a 5-minute walk from our door, and the very cool Fitzroy and Collingwood neighbourhoods are just the other side of Victoria Street - just a few kms away. That's where you'll find an abundance of galleries, cafes, artists haunts and the amazing Abbotsford Convent (yoga, vegetarian social-experimental restaurant, markets, outdoor cinema, Handsome Steve's refreshments, beautiful gardens and the animals from the next-door Collingwood Children's Farm).
Supermarkets, convenience stores, delis, chemists, specialty produce shops, liquor stores and scattered all throughout the vicinity.
If you want to watch an Australian Rules Football match whilst here, the country's most famous ground, the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), is just 2km away and has a fantastic atmosphere over the footy season (March - September), even if you don't understand the rules! Tickets are about $20 and totally worth it - it's a real Melbourne experience (the sport originated in Melbourne).
We do allow smoking, but only out in the courtyard.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We've been doing this for a while now, so no question is too weird.
Cheers,
Loren
