In Maur near Zürich we have a small old house with two rooms. This house needs to be rebuilt very soon. This 120 year old house is very basic and please note that it is worn out. On the ground floor it has a small kitchen and upstairs there is a toilet and a shower.
Before booking we would like if you could introduce yourself quickley, so that we can imagine to what kind of persons we are going to rent this little house.
No smoking inside. Because we never smoke, we prefer guest who do not even know what tobacco is. Some people went for a walk well away from the house whenever they had to smoke, and that was ok for us.
Some people have said that the house is smelling and that is is not healthy to live there. So the time is really coming that the house has to be rebuilt. But other people did not have this impression.
The house is heated with electric heaters and if it is very cold outside then it will not be very warm inside. Therefore it may be advisable not to book to early in winter and watch the weather conditions first.
The house is not everybodys style, but many artists and creative people have stayed here and felt quite well.
We think this little hous is ok until max 4 persons. A dog we count like an extra person.
Our guest often do not find the forks and knives. They are in the drawer of the table in the room.
Maur is still a farming village, 35 minutes by tram and bus from the main train station of Zurich (12km east, at a lake opposite of Uster)
Local attractions
- pretty village with 4 restaurants and small castle of XII century
- 5 minute walk through the fields to the lake, or 4 hours around it
- free Internet access at PC in room and open wireless (if it works)
- bicycles have to be repaired first
Do only come if you have made a reservation!
Do not come with an expensive car. It does not suit with the house.
How to get there by public transport:
- a ticket (enter 8124 at machine) costs Fr.8.20 (valid 2 hours),
or an pass for 24 hours (Zones 10, 21,30) costs Fr.16.40
(Train rides to the airport are included in those tickets. If you buy a card with 6 tickets on it, you can buy half fare if you are not over 25 years old. A monthly all zones pass valid after 9am, personal or transferable, costs about SFr.120.-.)
- tram number 3 to Klusplatz (allow 20 minutes to get there)
- then bus 747, leaves at about 19 and 49 past every hour, last bus at 36 minutes past midnight, 20 min. ride via Witikon, Binz, Ebmatingen to Maur Dorf (at the foot of the hill).
From the Airport Tram 12 to Stettbach and then bus 743 to Maur Dorf. This works until about 8pm. Later Stettbach to Fällanden then bus to Pfaffhausen then bus 747 to Maur Dorf. Or right away but more expensive from the Airport train to Zurich main station, tram 3 to Klusplatz (final stop), bus 747 to Maur Dorf.
