Access to building roof top on the 6th floor.

2 major huge grocery stores are close by.

The Greta Garbo ( New York Photographer's Loft)

David's loft was fifteen years old for my daughter and a true refuge in New York.
We even went home in the afternoon or all morning remained in the loft because we enjoyed it so much.
The loft was exactly like the photos. What you can not see, was the pleasant smell that spread right around the corner.
It was clean, airy, spacious and very well thought out.
We loved the good photo books, premium sound system and a large stove and refrigerator.
My daughter was impressed above all of the lights to be controlled by remote control chain.
Key collection was perfect and David explained everything wonderfully. We were very taken by David. Even before the arrival he sent helpful emails. In the apartment there are subway maps and brochures of different delivery service providers.
The connection to the green line 6 was very good. Even the drive to the airport was very good and has a lot of money saved.
The Loft is located in the industrial area between two freeways. Eggs as we who come from the south of Berlin, should know this and take your earplugs. The Loft is located in the Bronx. We felt very safe and without exception, love, met friendly and funny people. These would be the operator of the drinks trade, the Indian owner of a shop and the friendly girls at DD.
David, we thank You hereby once more for the wonderful stay in your loft that became our personal retreat

The Greta Garbo ( New York Photographer's Loft)

My stay in David's apartment was an outstanding and outright positive experience from the very first moment onwards.

David had recommended to meet in person in midtown Manhattan to pass on the keys for his apartment. It was very nice and comforting that he immediately suggested to have a cup of coffee in a nearby café to provide me with a detailled description how to best get to his place - a prizeless service for somebody like me that had only arrived a couple of days earlier in NYC and was - from time to time - still battling with the map of the subway system. Apart from that, we also found some time for chatting about a lot of other stuff (I hope I have not kept him from his work too long! :)).

The surroundings of the area at the subway station one has to get off for David's place might look a little rough upon a first glance but should not be seen as discouraging - in fact, coming from glittery Downtown Manhattan, this sight is something for a change and certainly adds to the real overall NYC experience. I never felt threatened or unsafe and was even able to walk the streets one night around 1:30am.

David's apartment is an eye catcher for sure! It is perfectly clean, neat and tidy. The arrangement of furniture and items is testimony of his aesthetic soul and I felt welcome and cozy from the very first second onwards. As promised, he had left me a note with instructions how to connect to the internet. As I was staying in his place over New Year, he had placed a bottle of red wine as a welcome gift on the table (an extra service that deserves a lot of praise).

The kitchen area is well-equipped with dishes, cutlery and necessary appliances and allows for the preparation of smaller snacks as well as full-scale cooking. David had even encouraged me to make use of the food he had in the fridge.

The bathroom is clean and spotless and the temperature of the water in the shower can be turned up quite high, allowing for really warming up after a long walk on a cold winter's day around the city.

David's apartment features an amazing collection of music (best played using his computer and the sound system) as well as many nice books - in fact, it is really a pity that one is just a visitor to NYC and, therefore, will be out and exploring the city most of the time, but in case of a really dreadful day in terms of weather, temperature, etc.) one could spend a whole day without a single moment of feeling bored.

The roof top right in front of the apartment is accessible and, especially during the summer time, must be a gorgeous place to have BBQs or just simply enjoy a drink and watch the sun setting.

Another major plus of a stay at David's place is his mother that is residing just a couple of floors further up in the building as she is very friendly, helpful and good company. I really did enjoy the conversations I had with her.

Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to explore the surroundings of David's apartment (e.g. restaurants, shops) as I was only around for a short time. But I am sure that there are many hidden gems in the area.

I fully can and do recommend staying with David and would do it again in a heartbeat - knowing, of course, very well that by this positive review I will make it more difficult for me to find his place available! :)

The Greta Garbo ( New York Photographer's Loft)

We spent about ten days in this very beautiful loft. Every piece in the apartment is selected affectionate and esthetically. You open the door and feel like at home. David is undoubtedly the creator of this wonderful interior. He is a likeable, open, uncomplicated – a really nice person.
Around the area of this former industrial building live many very poor people. We found them always friendly, joyful despite their poverty; there is a very lively street life in the neighborhood. Some people might love this kind of area (as we did) others might be frightened – maybe because they are not used to areas like this. But we couldn`t see any reason why this area should be more dangerous than others.
There is just one critical aspect of the apartment which I think is worth to point out to you.
The loft is really large and has a very high ceiling. In really cold days I would imagine it will be rather difficult to get it heated and nice warm. When we were there (Nov. 2012, snow fall) the heating was totally broken due to hurricane Sandy – this was an extraordinary situation, of course – but when you are in a freezing cold apartment for ten days you start thinking about questions like this…
Ask David about the heating before you rent the apartment within winter time. I would suggest you can rely on his words.
We wish everybody wonderful days in this beautiful loft… enjoy life and music – Harlem, Apollo Theatre and Lenox Lounge are not far away; connection to downtown Manhattan is good (subway 6).

The Greta Garbo ( New York Photographer's Loft)

We spent a good week in David Loft and enjoyed the time. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything you need for cooking. The bathroom and the whole apartment was very clean. In particular, the evening sun in the apartment is beautiful! The "rooftop" has great views, very NYC-Style! Even the subway connection was fantastic. Necessarily the A-train times in the Bronx go to the end, and with the bus to City Iceland, an absolute highlight!

The Greta Garbo ( New York Photographer's Loft)

My son and I had the greatest of times in the big apple. We explored the city as well as we could in only a week but we did that from the best base we could think of: the apartment of David. It's just on the rim Manhattan and in the middle of all boroughs. We felt very welcome and at ease in a warmly, personal and sophisticated decorated loftappartment. We got a lot of help from Davids mother when he was away. The apartment felt like our home and every end of the day we went home again, that was why NYC felt like home to us so fast, my son wants to go back as soon as possible and I don t mind going with him;)) if we go back we certainly check in Davids apartment again, Jan and Jakob

You will not leave this apartment unsatisfied. Mott Heaven is a quiet, safe location. Ten minutes with the six train from Manhattan, this area will impress the visitors for its typical New York suburban allure.
The apartment is just great. Whether you’ve already been in New York or not, you’ll have a clue of how the City affects an artist. Spacious, clean, quiet, is what most look for. The one who choose will also experience its vibrant aura, its pulsing inspiration and care of the detail. You will not be disturbed by traffic noises and the neighbor’s livelihood will keep you in good mood if you’re alone.
The owner is a helpful and caring artist, you will not regret booking this loft for your stay in the City so I don’t see why you shouldn’t go for it. Everything is just as depicted in the picture and in Davd’s review. Maybe it’s even better. Beauty sometimes doesn’t just lie in the eye of the beholder.

The loft was clean, very well designed and with a real soul. The location was convenient, about 20-30 minutes to Manhattan via the 4,5 express trains. David was a great host, friendly and accommodating. His mum Naomi and friends were extremely nice. What a great last night with his neighbour and friend Moshe playing wonderful music on his grand piano! We enjoyed our whole week and think we could not have such experience if we have stayed in a normal hotel. We‘d eagerly visit again and highly recommend.

The Greta Garbo ( New York Photographer's Loft)

Staying in David's apartment was exactly as he described on the website; a cute, relaxing, peaceful haven away from the madness of the city.
And although at first a bit shady looking, to non-New Yorkers, the location is perfectly safe and well connected within a couple of minutes walk to the 6 train straight into town. Really great location.
David was an amazing host, really accommodating and helpful and a cool guy.
Staying there really made our trip something special.
Thanks again!

The apt of David is as in the pictures: huge, spacious and charming (we loved his choice of music). The kitchen is fully equiped and the bathroom is nice too (although it is not possible to shower without spilling water on the floor...).

We heard traffic noise through the window, which did not disturb our sleep though.

Unfortunately something was not clear in the mail system so we did not receive any emails in advance. The key handover was therefore a bit adventurous.

Thank you for having hosted us, David! We had a great time and the South Bronx is very safe indeed.
