Transportation tips:
Muni Bus system:
If you intend to ride the cable cars, then it is cheaper to buy a bus pass, the fare on the 1 California bus downtown is $2.00 and the cable cars are $5 so its better value to get a bus pass. The passes are for consecutive days.
1-day Passport $14
3-day Passport $21
7-day Passport $27
Passports may be purchased on the Muni site or at the Airport, SFO Information Booth (Baggage Claim area)
For more information on Muni Passports and the CityPASS visit the sfmta site.
One of the easiest budget ways to get to the flat from SFO is a door-to-door Super Shuttle: it costs $17 per person each way. Each additional person in your party will cost $10.
A taxi from the airport costs about $50-60 with tip. You do not really need a rental car, except if you wish to see the Wine Country or to explore Marin. There is an Enterprise rental car company on Geary between 6th and 7th.
Renting a zipcar by the hour or day is another option if you would like to explore outside of the city.
