Apartment in exciting area of City

Great apartment. Lovely people would stay there again.

The apartment is not the newest but compared to the ones I had the other 4 years, clearly the best / most beautiful / spacious / cleanest. The location is great - very close to the red light district and also to the rest of the sights. Stuard is a very nice person and always there should you need anything. Wifi and Sky are also available. The apartment is on the third floor and the stairs (as everywhere in Amsterdam) are very narrow and steep - in certain states you are doing is hard to come to the apartment ;). Easy to recommend, we had five of us a very nice stay. Thank you again for the nice hosts.

On the positives: The location is faultless, being a stone's throw from Centraal Station, Dam Square and the RLD.  The apartment itself is just as described: clean, light and spacious (except for the tiny toilet, though we found over the weekend that this seems to be the case all over the city..) with everything you could possible need for a comfortable stay, and all in good working order.  Finding a pantry with useful bits and pieces in it (olive oil, salt, pepper, coffee filter papers) was great - as we were staying for the weekend, it saved us buying stuff only to waste it (though we were very happy to leave our own bits and pieces for the next guests...).  Free wifi was a massive plus, and the Sky was useful for music channels late at night.  Stuart (Renee's husband) is a really cool guy and they were extremely flexible with check in and check out times to fit with our travel plans.  Last but not least, putting out real roses in the hall and sitting room was a very nice touch, as was providing copious towels.   On the negatives: No negatives as such, just a couple of things to be aware of to help you decide whether this apartment is for you.  Firstly, as other reviewers have noted, it is on the top floor, reached by a VERY steep twisting staircase with LOTS of steps !!  We are fit 40-somethings and each time approached the ascent with grim determination: older or infirm visitors might find it difficult or impossible to get up and down.  Secondly, a peaceful retreat this ain't !  On Friday and Saturday night, the carousing from the street below went (loudly) on until 3am - then (as other reviewers have mentioned) early on Sunday morning, we were treated to an extended Dutch bellringing session from the nearby Oude Kerk.  This was fine by us, as we were carousing too, and by 7am on Sunday were pretty much unconscious, but for some it might all be a bit much.   In summary, we had a great stay in a cool place for a very reasonable price, and would definitely stay there again when partying in Amsterdam.
