The private room is located on the first floor close to the front door. It has a twin bunk on top and a full size on the bottom, a roll away bed and two air mattresses.
There is also a mini fridge and micowave in the room. A water cooler is available just outside of the room.
Please read the house rules.
A shared bathroom is on the second floor.
The hosts live in another private part of the home.
Our home is a great home for the independent traveler. There are times when the house is full of people and others when there might be only a few. During high season (summer, Lollapalooza for example) the house may be very busy giving you the opportunity to meet a lot of new people.
We have dogs and cats, in case of allergies or sensitivities, who live in a different part of the house with the hosts. If you have any issues with pets at all, or think you might have issues, this is not the home for you.
Coin laundry available just one stop away -- about 7 minutes.
We are just a 3 minute walk to the Blue Line train; a minute's drive to the 290 ramp. Please note that because we are so close to the train, you will hear some noise. This is the price we pay for this amazing convenience. This is the train that takes you directly to O'Hare airport and also into downtown Chicago in about 17 minutes. The first stop at Jackson, is only 17 minutes. But the other end of the loop, Washington, can be as long as 40 minutes. To come from Midway you would take the Orange Line and switch for the Blue Line at Van Buren and continue on.
All reservations must go through WIMDU including last minute reservations.
No local resident rentals please.
We are located in a very safe neighborhood called the Arts District of Oak Park. A wonderful artsy vibe is what you will find in this neck of the woods. We are around the corner from great restaurants, shops, art galleries and a rockin' hairstylist for those who want to try something cutting edge. There is a fantastic beading store for those who'd like to explore this art. Val's Halla is legendary for those who love old vinyl.
We are very convenient to all the attractions such as the Sears "Willis" Tower, Millenium Park, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, Lincoln Park Zoo, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (with the free flying butterflies. Best nature museum and I've been to many) and Navy Pier, just to name a few (and that's really just a few. There are so many more things to do!)
We are walking distance to the Jewel and CVS (about 5 blocks). Next door to the Jewel is a Budget/Avis car rental for those times you just want to drive around. I can get you free parking for up to 30 days.
We are around the corner from Yoga Trek (has drop in classes), Val's Halla records (if you're into music, this is a must see place) some great restaurants, Italian and The Buzz Cafe (great free range beef burger, gluten free, organic) for Eclectic fare, and just one train stop away from Brazilian, American, more Mexican food, Hole in the Wall for ice cream (yum) and a Pans, a small family owned grocery store. A laundry is next to the Brazilian restaurant. Don't forget to try the passion fruit mousse - delicious!
For the architecture buff, Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio is located here in Oak Park along with many of his buildings. Guided tours are available.
It's also the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway.
We are located just a 2-3 minute walk to the blue line train. You can actually see the entrance from our front door. It's that convenient.
We are also minutes to the 290 expressway entrance if you have a car. If you want to rent a car, we are walking distance to Budget/Avis Car Rental.
Each room has a mini fridge and microwave and access to a cold water cooler. On site host's living quarters are private. Coin laundry just a stop away (about 7 minutes).
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:
Our house is great for the independent traveler. We have a great self check in system so you can arrive at your convenience s anytime after 4 pm on the date of your reservation. Our family lives in a separate part of the house. There are times when I will be around all the time and others when you might never see me. If you're looking for a place to rest and not a lot of host contact, this is a great place. If you want heavy host involvement, this probably would not meet your expectations. However, I am able to be reached at all times by text.
Please bring a towel.
I will quickly let you know of the rules, which are really based in courtesy.
*Clean up after yourself in the bathroom. There are cleaning items for your convenience.
*Shower quickly and finish getting ready in your room as we only have one bathroom.
*Quiet time begins at 10pm. Please use headphones.
*No smoking in the house. Please, smoke outside and do not try to blow it out the window. Do not throw your cigarettes on my neighbor's lawn or put your cigarette out on my house. Throw the butts in the dumpsters in the alley. Do not throw them on my roof.
*Do not dismantle the smoke detector (and try to smoke).
*No drug use at all in this home and this includes pot.
*Please take out your garbage every night to the cans outside.
*Do not unplug the fridge.

I ask is that you remember that this is my home. A home that I really love, that I have raised my family in and where life happens. We have dogs and cats. Please let me say that again. WE HAVE DOGS AND CATS AND ALL THINGS THAT COME WITH PET OWNERSHIP. If pets will be of any issue here, please do not book a room here and then complain about my pets.

Unfortunately we did not meet Tamara, because we only had a short stay for one night and arrived late in the evening and left early in the morning for the marathon. But from her messages I am sure she is a very kind and likeable host.
I can confirm all the other feedbacks given before.
We were provided with detailed information and had no problem to find the house which is close to the CTA indeed. The way from downtown Chicago is indeed a bit long. For one night, that was absolutely no problem. For a week, it might be bothersome.
Compared to others I can not confirm that the train or the highway nearby were disturbing. But maybe that was due to our stay from 10 pm until 5 am.
Wifi worked well too.
We even got an additional bed as we stayed there with 3.
Sharing the bathroom with others was ok, which might also be due to the downtime we had been there. We even got help by other tenants as we forgot our power adapters.
The problem was that we also slept in the room downstairs, that had no lock (also no problem when only staying 7 hours). So we were also annoyed by the smell of cat pee. And we were surprised by two coons in the window of the doorway. But as they were coward, they did not get in.
Tamara was very helpful and pleasant. Our only issue was the over powering smell of cat pee. Wouldn't recommend staying in downstairs room...upstairs may be OK.
Tamara is a great host, we enjoyed the stay at her place.
Very good connection to the blue metro line.
We would like to share our experience in this property in order to other people know what they are going to find in this house:
1) The situation of the house is very close of the train stop
2) Tamara was very kind and sent us all the information we needed via email
3) The room was clean and it has a fridge and microwave, and also, they provide to us shampoo and some soup.
4) The wifi works very good
5) We had a fan in our room
6) The twins beds were confortable
1) The door of the room has not any lock, so we had to trust that nobody of the other tenants opened our room... (nothing happened to us)
2) The bathroom is shared for four bedrooms, in my opinion this is too much
3) The smell in the main entrance, corridor and bathroom is awful, I think because of the cats' urine
4) The train takes a long time to arrive to the Austin stop
5) We've never met our host or anybody in the house. Only other tenants going to the bathroom. Everything was very impersonal.
6) The room has not A.C. but we could sleep with the fan.
7) The noise of the highway and the train rail is quite high because the house is just in front of them. We had to close the window to sleep. Take this into account if you go during the summer and want to have the window opened.
The room is clean, spacious and well-equiped. There is a spacious closet and a comfortable bed. The refrigerator and the microwave work. The house, located in the quiet suburb of Oak Park, is close to downtown thanks to its close proximity to the Blue Line el.
Tamara is a great hostess. She is personable and concerned about the comfort of her guests. For example, when the microwave in my room « died », she replaced it the same day. She keeps the bathroom clean and provides clean linen each week. She is always just a text message away. I am so pleased with my stay with Tamara that I have extended it.
Tamara was very friendly.
The bathroom, which I shared with the male roommates of the house was very dirty. The shower (bath) I could not use. The toilet was also smeared and dirty.
Before I left because I had no opportunity to respond to the Tamara uncleanliness which took place only on departure.
Then she said that down with her I had the bathroom could use. You've forgotten me probably to tell.
The room is separated to the next room and the corridor only by folding doors, which makes it a bit noisy.
Tamara is very welcoming and kind. Her property is indeed conveniently located, just a few minutes from the metro line. The room was clean and comfortable.
Tamara's place was what I needed for a quick couple of nights in Chicago: a clean bed and access to Wifi. We didn't get a chance to meet, but she made sure someone was home to let me in and give me the code to the door for my stay. Parking was a little bit tricky (had to be off the street by 8 a.m.) because of street sweeping, but she offered to give me a parking permit.
Tamara is very gentle and welcome me when I arrived. The location is fantastic, near the blue line train station so it,s no more than 15-20 min to downtown. The room was clean and had also a microwave and a refrigerator.
A quite old house with 4 private rooms. The location is perfect, easy to reach from airport (no need to change the train) and easy to get into city center. Nice equiped room and clean bathroom. Everything was perfect organised.
