This room is our family room and is on the first floor off the kitchen. A combination of futons, real twin mattresses, air mattresses on the floor as well as the couch itself to accommodate larger groups. The room is separated by heavy curtains to give you privacy. It also has the tv. And yes, you can make a fort if you want. Think old school sleepover.

We are just a 3 minute walk to the Blue Line train. This is the train that takes you directly to O'Hare airport and also into downtown Chicago in about 17 minutes. To come from Midway you would take the Orange Line and switch for the Blue Line at Van Buren and continue on. It's also a 5 minute drive to the 290 on ramp. Please note that because we are so close to the train, you will hear some noise.

Our bohemian style home is a great home for the independent traveler. The vibe is more of a laid back and artsy kind of place with 5 private rooms (which can be viewed under listings). There are times when the house is full of people and others when there might be only a few. During high season (summer, Lollapalooza for example) the house may be very busy giving you the opportunity to meet a lot of new people.

We have dogs and cats in case of allergies or sensitivities. They are never allowed in the bedrooms.

A laundromat is about 7 minutes away- Just one train stop over. There aren't any laundry facilities on site.

We are very convenient to all the attractions such as the Sears "Willis" Tower, Millenium Park, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, Lincoln Park Zoo, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (with the free flying butterflies. Best nature museum and I've been to many) and Navy Pier, just to name a few (and that's really just a few. There are so many more things to do!)

We are walking distance to the Jewel and CVS (about 5 blocks). Next door to the Jewel is a Budget/Avis car rental for those times you just want to drive around. I can get you free parking for up to 30 days.

We are around the corner from Yoga Trek (has drop in classes), Val's Halla records (if you're into music, this is a must see place) some great restaurants, Italian and The Buzz Cafe (great free range beef burger, gluten free, organic) for Eclectic fare, and just one train stop away from Brazilian, American, more Mexican food, Hole in the Wall for ice cream (yum) and a Pans, a small family owned grocery store. A laundry is next to the Brazilian restaurant. Don't forget to try the passion fruit mousse - delicious!

For the architecture buff, Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio is located here in Oak Park along with many of his buildings. Guided tours are available.

It's also the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway

House rules
Our house rules are simple and are in place to make this a wonderful experience for both the host and guest.

Smoking. Smoking is allowed outside. All I ask is that you dispose of cigarette butts properly in the garbage cans in the alley. Please do not put out cigarettes in my garden or on my house. Do not throw them in the street, the sewer or the neighbor's lawn. If you are found to be smoking inside any parts of the house, including lighting cigarettes in the kitchen, blowing smoke out the window and/or the enclosed front porch, I will immediately contact Wimdu and politely ask you to leave immediately without any refund. Do not dismantle the smoke alarm - ever. There are not exceptions to this rule.

Kitchen use: You are welcome to use the kitchen. You may use either paper plates and disposable silverware or regular plates. Please clean up after yourself and dispose of garbage properly. The dish soap is in the glass fish container. The pump is for hand soap. The garbage can is next to the sink. Please do not let water run constantly as we do try to conserve water. You may also store your items in the refrigerator if your room does not have mini-fridge. Please put your name on the items. Do not use any other items in the fridge other than items you have purchased for yourself. This includes condiments. You may not cook in the middle of the night. This disrupts people who are trying to sleep.

Cancellation: I have a strict cancellation policy in effect. Please refer to Wimdu's rules.

Clothing: You must wear clothing at all times. Boxer shorts are underpants and are not acceptable to wear outside of your room. Please put on a shirt and shorts/pants when in common areas.

Curfew: While there is no curfew in the house, please be very quiet when you come in so you don't wake anyone else up in the house. As a night owl myself, I understand being up late and doing things. However, you will never hear me make a sound. So it is not a good idea to talk loudly on the phone, or Skype or play your computer loudly.

Bathroom: Please be conservative with water as Lake Michigan is at an all time low. We do not have drains in our bathroom floors. Please do not throw water all around the bathroom. Please make sure the shower curtain is closed and water does not get all over the floor. You are welcome to use the towels in the bathroom. When you are done, please put the towel on the hook behind the door so that I can wash it.

Check out time is 10 am. Check in time is 2 pm.

This is very important. Please do not let my dogs upstairs. Do not take it upon yourself to let them in the house. Do not go into any areas marked private. Do not go out the back door and do not go into the yard. While I might let my tiny dogs upstairs once in a while, the big dogs are not allowed in the upstairs area at any time.

Thank you so much and I look forward to meeting you!

October 2015
Comfortable, Safe and Convenient to Downtown Chicago

Unfortunately we did not meet Tamara, because we only had a short stay for one night and arrived late in the evening and left early in the morning for the marathon. But from her messages I am sure she is a very kind and likeable host.

I can confirm all the other feedbacks given before.
We were provided with detailed information and had no problem to find the house which is close to the CTA indeed. The way from downtown Chicago is indeed a bit long. For one night, that was absolutely no problem. For a week, it might be bothersome.
Compared to others I can not confirm that the train or the highway nearby were disturbing. But maybe that was due to our stay from 10 pm until 5 am.

Wifi worked well too.
We even got an additional bed as we stayed there with 3.

Sharing the bathroom with others was ok, which might also be due to the downtime we had been there. We even got help by other tenants as we forgot our power adapters.

The problem was that we also slept in the room downstairs, that had no lock (also no problem when only staying 7 hours). So we were also annoyed by the smell of cat pee. And we were surprised by two coons in the window of the doorway. But as they were coward, they did not get in.

Tamara was very helpful and pleasant. Our only issue was the over powering smell of cat pee. Wouldn't recommend staying in downstairs room...upstairs may be OK.

Comfortable, Safe and Convenient to Downtown Chicago

We would like to share our experience in this property in order to other people know what they are going to find in this house:
1) The situation of the house is very close of the train stop
2) Tamara was very kind and sent us all the information we needed via email
3) The room was clean and it has a fridge and microwave, and also, they provide to us shampoo and some soup.
4) The wifi works very good
5) We had a fan in our room
6) The twins beds were confortable
1) The door of the room has not any lock, so we had to trust that nobody of the other tenants opened our room... (nothing happened to us)
2) The bathroom is shared for four bedrooms, in my opinion this is too much
3) The smell in the main entrance, corridor and bathroom is awful, I think because of the cats' urine
4) The train takes a long time to arrive to the Austin stop
5) We've never met our host or anybody in the house. Only other tenants going to the bathroom. Everything was very impersonal.
6) The room has not A.C. but we could sleep with the fan.
7) The noise of the highway and the train rail is quite high because the house is just in front of them. We had to close the window to sleep. Take this into account if you go during the summer and want to have the window opened.

Double the Fun! Close to Downtown.

A quite old house with 4 private rooms. The location is perfect, easy to reach from airport (no need to change the train) and easy to get into city center. Nice equiped room and clean bathroom. Everything was perfect organised.

Comfortable, Safe and Convenient to Downtown Chicago

The room is clean, spacious and well-equiped. There is a spacious closet and a comfortable bed. The refrigerator and the microwave work. The house, located in the quiet suburb of Oak Park, is close to downtown thanks to its close proximity to the Blue Line el.
Tamara is a great hostess. She is personable and concerned about the comfort of her guests. For example, when the microwave in my room « died », she replaced it the same day. She keeps the bathroom clean and provides clean linen each week. She is always just a text message away. I am so pleased with my stay with Tamara that I have extended it.

Tamara was very friendly.
The bathroom, which I shared with the male roommates of the house was very dirty. The shower (bath) I could not use. The toilet was also smeared and dirty.
Before I left because I had no opportunity to respond to the Tamara uncleanliness which took place only on departure.
Then she said that down with her I had the bathroom could use. You've forgotten me probably to tell.
The room is separated to the next room and the corridor only by folding doors, which makes it a bit noisy.

Comfortable, Safe and Convenient to Downtown Chicago

Tamara's place was what I needed for a quick couple of nights in Chicago: a clean bed and access to Wifi. We didn't get a chance to meet, but she made sure someone was home to let me in and give me the code to the door for my stay. Parking was a little bit tricky (had to be off the street by 8 a.m.) because of street sweeping, but she offered to give me a parking permit.
