In fact, what makes our house unique is that we have now served as hosts to people from all over the world and sometime at the same time. I rent my house because each time we meet someone at our home, we experience a little part of the world that otherwise we may have not known. Also, many of the people that we have met actually become our friends. I love that everybody who visits our home feels there is a camaraderie which emanates from our home. If only we could bottle that and sell it to the world, eh?
Evanston is home to Northwestern University and boasts tree-lined lakefront paths for biking/jogging, a vibrant shopping district, dozens of ethnically diverse restaurants, live music venues, movie theaters and more. Northwestern, and the lakefront, are only a few minutes away. Evanston has many of the best Midwestern tourists attractions within a day's reach. It is a great place to base yourself whether your visiting for purposes of Northwestern University, or you want to experience Chicago. The trains are also located 1 block away and you can be in downtown Chicago within 35 minutes.!
Our Loft Room is 800 sq ft of living space on the 3rd floor of this restored historic home. Space includes big screen TV, w/ surround sound system, treadmill, leather sofa, desk., bed and bureau for your clothing. There are 2 beds, with one that is a trundle bed that sleeps 2. We also have a queen-size air mattress, if more beds are needed. In each of the amazing bedrooms we have, there is a refrigerator, so you can shop and make your meals at will in our kitchen. We do have a large, bright kitchen that people like to hang in. Everyone is free to use all our kitchen appliances as long as they clean up after themselves. I will be happy to show you where things are stored. Also, in each bedroom there is a desk for your laptop where you can do your work if necessary, there is a refrigerator, so you can shop and make your meals at will in our kitchen, a closet to hang clothing, and a bureau for folding things. Guest are free to work just about anywhere they wish in the house (the glory of Wi-Fi) whether in the first floor since the living room is a pleasant room to work in with lots of light, or the kitchen, family room, the screened in outside porch, or use our BBQ grill and outdoor patio. In other words, as long as you are neat about where you work and clean up after yourself, you are free to use which ever room in the house fits your needs best. Also, we have a free laundry facility on the second floor for small loads of laundry or you can use the basement laundry facility for your larger loads. We do serve morning coffee and tea... we may not serve a full breakfast, but always guests are welcome to a sort of continental breakfast of bagel, toast with jam, or muffins, depending on your preference.
Unlike most Victorian era homes, all of the rooms in the Hinman Home are quite large. In addition, the first thing you will notice is how high the ceilings are. At 12' high, it adds to this feeling of spaciousness that everybody feels upon entering our home. It has 5 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. We have central air and heat, cable TV and wireless internet everywhere in the house and yard. We also have 2 little white/black toy fox terrier dogs that I've never heard as much as a growl from. They have always been great at making friends w/ people.
Because I am a writer, I work out of our home, and will always be available to answer any questions you may have that come up. Questions, such as how to use something in the house or about our local area.
Our neighborhood is great for walking/jogging along the lake, looking at historic older homes in the neighborhood, or riding a bike along the lake, which can be rented at a nearby bike shop. In our neighborhood we have two large grocery stores, Whole Foods & Jewels, only one block away. And so very many inexpensive and good eclectic restaurants, you can find a meal to fit whatever your ethnic desires may be, and they are all within walking distance.
Here are some things nearby that might interest you: The Evanston Summertime Outdoor Concerts Along the Lake & the Lagoon (Davis St), The Summer Concerts at the Outdoor Ravinia Bandshell and picnic grounds in nearby Highland Park, The Chicago Botanic Garden, Evanston's Public beaches, parks, arboretum and playgrounds and excellent walking/running routes right out our door; The Evanston Yoga studios, The Block Art museum, Evanston Public library on the NU campus; Baha'i Temple; The Chicago Institute of Music featuring daily concerts and workshops, which is on Chicago Ave. & Grove St.
Respect our home as you would respect your own.
Please clean up after yourself in the kitchen
Please always make sure our dogs are not by the front door when you are exiting. All you have to tell them is, "Stay Back.". Same w/ when you enter the house. Please make sure the dogs don't go out front door. If they do, don't chase them, just tell them I have a treat and start rustling around in a bag & that should get their attention.
