Welcome to our laid-back, "smoke friendly" house, where you will find a vaporiser in almost every room. It is Amsterdam after all and you'll find us in the heart of it.
We live on the lovely Keizersgracht canal and you will find us on the corner with Utrechtsestraat, just two blocks south of Rembrandtplein. So you'll find plenty of local bars, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops just around the corner.
The #4 Tram stops just outside our front door, but there is no need to buy a Tram pass as we are within walking distance to pretty much everything you are coming to see. We also have some bicycles that we are more than happy to let you use free of charge. Just let us know when you arrive. It's a fun and safe way to explore the city.
Our house is the whole 5 floor canal-side building. It's an old building that's been decorated in an eclectic and quirky style. We have divided up our house into a few single and double rooms, both with and without en-suites and a few larger self contained units we call apartments. All The rooms/apts are off a common stairway and share the same entrance, but the room/apt is your own private space that you do not need to share with anyone.
At the top of our house is our Penthouse "Apt.", offering funky loft style living in the centre of Amsterdam.
We do not have an elevator in the building, so be prepared for a little climb.
The Penthouse is essentially a large room at the top of the house with a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom and shower are in the main room just off to the side. It's a funky open plan design, so it does not provide much in terms of privacy.
On the upper mezzanine level there is a double bed that can comfortably sleep two and the couch in the main room can also be used as 2 single beds, so the penthouse could sleep up to 4 people in total.
Best of all the penthouse benefits from it's own outdoor patio. It's a perfect place to sit and relax when the weather is nice and there is even a BBQ that you can use.
There is a computer in the room for you to use that is connected to the internet and a server full of movies and shows for you to watch.
Free Secure WiFi is also available throughout the building. Just ask us for the password when you arrive.
We also provide sheets and towels, so you just need to bring the soap :)
We live in the building downstairs, so we are usually around if you need any help and advice or just to hang out and chat with.
*** During New Year's and Queen's Day we have a 4 night minimum stay ***
Hello everyone, We just returned from a trip to Dam and stayed at 4 in the penthouse! It was really at the top! Thank you to Allan & Danny for their zen home :) The photos are very realistic lines. The + + +: the view of the canal from the upstairs bedroom, very bright apartment, terrace, big screen TV, WIFI, a volcano in the living room :) The -: the toilet in the room, utensils kitchen dirty, thin mattress We are a great location line 4 from the central station which stop right in front keizergrach.Non away from sugar factory and superb discos paradiso not to be missed! Stay and opt for this apartment good value for money. I ****** advice for friends who want to have fun. ****
It was a fantastic place, a perfect accomodation for Amsterdam...tv with soundsystem, computer, internet, wifi, kitchen with vaporiser, and upstairs the bed with the window above the houses and canals of the city! I would say 9/10 only because of the shower and toilet was in the same air as the room without door, and the flat was a little bit far from the centre...but completely good for a relaxed, hippie holiday! ;)
Great hosts, knowledgeable, good advice on places to visit within the city and extremely helpful. Will endeavour to return to Amsterdam and would most certainly stay here again.
Nice host had, but asked if the apartment is family friendly, which definitely was not the case. Dirty and baby bathroom a death trap. Good for a "stoner holiday", families have no business there.
honest and helpful (i hope) review:
Had SUCH a good time staying here, i strongly recommend this for people who dont want to stay in dingy hostels, and who want to stay somewhere thats homely, cosy and laid back. and affordable!
Allan and Danny were lovely guys, and very helpful and keen to give us tips for improving our stay in amsterdam.
Small word of warning: amsterdam buildings are very tall, and this room is at the top, so if your legs arent up for it, pick another room in the building.
Another point, only stay here if youre with good friends, as theres not too much privacy.
Overall, this is the best place ive stayed at in amsterdam, and will DEFINITELY be returning here on my next visit... affordable, friendly, comfy and very homely!
oh, and the roof terrace is great!
The Penthouse Flat is perfectly situated, with canal, gorgeous local shops, café & tram right on doorstep, and near enough to all the major sites that you can do without paying for tram anyway for most things. (About a 20 minute walk from Centraal.)
It’s a lovely place, and the atmosphere is great, Danny very welcoming and really helpful with questions about stuff, and everyone really nice.
Huge TV screen with loads of films a nice way to relax in evenings if you’re not out, and great to have computer and wifi too. A great library all around you, and a few games too. You’ll need matches for the gas stove.
We had a plague of mosquitoes that are nothing to do with anyone, but the result of lots of water, and hot weather. I would recommend you bring something to combat them though, because closing the windows isn’t great in hot weather, and doesn’t help that much with the mosquitoes either. There is a fan if you need to do this, but I only spotted it after the event! (It’s in the kitchen…)
The only thing that would make me think twice about coming here again, is the bathroom situation; there is no door/ceiling to the partitioned bathroom, which means you’re going to the loo in more of a public space than I’m comfortable with. Also, there wasn’t enough water (or pressure?) to keep the hot water running if any cold was added, so the shower was either very hot or cold; nothing in between, and barely enough water for a shower.
If you’re not as uptight as I am about privacy in the loo, and not that bothered about having to have a cold shower, you’ll love it here. Probably not suitable for small kids.
We had the most wonderful family adventure in Amsterdam - the apartment was perfect for me and my two children - they loved it's quirky feel and the fantastic views. We all enjoyed eating on the roof terrace and chilling out with a movie in the evenings.
Rental disappointing. Although the location is quiet, well located 5 minutes from Rembrandt Plein but the apartment is very dirty, the (rare) dishes are sticky, furniture broken, there is no hot water and all nobody cares, toilet and shower are in the living intimacy impossible, there is no sink ... In reading other reviews, we wonder if it is the same place. You said Penthouse???? To avoid
Definitely had a great time at Allan's. Felt more like crashing with a bohemian collective then staying in a hotel. We had a blast but just be warned that there are some quirks like a toilet directly in the living room with no door, that didn't phase us but may not be for the faint of heart.
I would easily stay here again next time I'm in town. Five stars for the location, host, and ambiance.
Thanks for the hospitality.
