The Company

We are Wimdu, one of the world’s leading online marketplaces for private accommodation. We believe passionately in the power of travel and strive each day to make quality travel experiences more accessible to everyone. With over 350,000 properties in more than 150 countries, Wimdu offers travellers authentic and affordable accommodation, from city apartments in Barcelona to chic studios in Paris, spacious lofts in New York and beach houses on the exotic island of Bali.

Remembered travel experiences are invaluable, which is why we connect travellers and hosts worldwide. Wherever you may travel, you are guaranteed to create long lasting memories with Wimdu. We operate our business under the idea that it is the small, local discoveries that make the holidays something special. Our apartments are ideal starting points for experiencing the many different facets of a city, whether it is in large metropolises such as Paris, Barcelona, or Rome, or in smaller, more relaxed cities.

Wimdu also lets you rent out your own place to those looking for a place to stay. Listing with us is free, and you can make money from your extra space whilst helping others explore the world.

The Wimdu Story

Wimdu was founded in March 2011 by Arne Blackwenn and Hinrich Dreiling, two close friends who had successfully founded two companies together before establishing Wimdu. Having become increasingly dissatisfied with expensive, anonymous hotels, the pair decided to create Wimdu, a company which would combine technical know-how, a passion for travel and a closer attention to the individual needs of users. By June 2011, Wimdu had already become the world’s second-largest community marketplace for private spaces.

By 2012, things really started kicking off and an expanded workforce welcomed the first of several supply initiatives. This continued to 2013 which marked Wimdu’s first big supply integration. However, the most exciting achievement of 2013 was the launch of our first TV marketing campaign in Germany.

Towards the end of 2014, Bleckwenn and Dreiling decided to step down as the CEO’s of Wimdu to join the Board of Directors. Arne Kahlke and Soren Kress, and CEO duties were voluntarily handed over at the beginning of 2015. During this time, Wimdu also made some structural changes which saw a new office in Berlin, and the movement of the Customer Support Team to Lisbon. TV marketing also expanded this year, with our advert now shown in Spain and Italy as well as Germany.

2016 was a time of change for Wimdu and by the end of the year we found ourselves happily part of Novasol and Wyndham Vacation Rentals, the world’s leading provider of holiday homes.

What does the future hold? We've already attracted over 2.5 million users who have enjoyed more than 10 million nights with Wimdu - and we won't stop there. We believe in the potential of the sharing economy. As we progress, we will continue to grow our number of apartments and also plan to offer additional services, always with the end goal of making travelling more accessible to everyone. This new and authentic way of travelling is here to stay. Come join us!

Jason & Sarah were a lovely couple and it was great to meet them. We shared many hours chatting which was fun and easy. They are personable, clean and tidy as well as very respectful. Everything you could ask for from a guest. I would welcome them back in a second! I hope you guys are well! A & B

Jason & Sarah

We are on our second honeymoon, doing a travel and sights degustation around Europe with budget in mind. We found accommodation with Wimdu as we wanted a local and more personal experience where we would get to meet other people. We have only positive things to say. Ahman and Bruce were friendly and hospitable. They have a lovely home (...) We regret that we only stayed for three days!

When you open the door of your house to Nicole and Anne, you feel like you are welcoming old friends. We had such a good time with them. Nicole and Anne are very nice persons, very easy- going, friendly an with a lot of enthusiasm. We highly recommend them to any host. We wish this mother and daughter all the best for life. Thanks for choosing us and you are very welcomed to come back again anytime. Greets from Anna and Jordy, Barcelona :)

Both our hosts made us feel very welcome. Being in a strange city with my daughter it was great to have the house of Anna and Jordy as our 'home base'. It is easy to get to every place in Barcelona by subway or by foot, and being so close to the Park Guell makes it extra special. (...) But our stay was especially great because of the care Anna and Jordy show for their guests. Go visit them! Nicole
