Marrakesh is a stunning city in Morocco, full of fascinating history and culture, a trip here will be one you will never forget. When you visit Marrakesh you must visit the stunning Old Town. Among the attractions here is Jemaa el-Fnaa, one of the most vibrant and famous squares and market centres in all of Africa. Here you will find an abundance of local culture, particularly in the early evening where many food stalls arrive, along with traditional storytellers, performers and musicians, all expressing their wonderful culture for intrigued audiences. With so much festivity and joy in Jemaa el-Fnaa, it is hard to believe the square was once used for public executions and decapitations by the city rulers. You cannot leave Marrakesh without visiting one of the traditional Souks, which are wonderful open air markets, full of authentic local offerings and food. Marrakesh has some of the largest Souks in Africa including the particularly famous Souk Semmarine, be sure to check it out. One of the most beautiful things to do in Morocco is to visit one of the magnificent gardens, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Of particular note is the Majorelle Garden which houses a stunning variety of plant species, a notable collection of cacti, many bird species, lovely ponds with lilies, many fountains and even a Museum of Islamic Art. Interestingly, designer, Yves Saint Laurent bought and restored the garden in 1980 and after his death his ashes were scattered here.Particularly close to Morocco is the wonderful Canary Islands.
