The large number of art galleries and museums make it clear that Santa Fe is the artistic center of New Mexico. It is also home to the oldest church in the USA, the St. Michael's Church, and the oldest public building in the country, the Governor's Palace, in the Plaza de Santa Fe. You may also want to take a trip to Carlsbad-Caverns-Nationalpark. The park, located in the southeast, impresses visitors with its 83 caves. It was rightly declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. Also worth mentioning is the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, a desert valley that impresses with its sometimes extravagant rock formations. All over the state there are traces of indigenous peoples. Examples are the ruins near the city of Aztec and the Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The latter is home to the densest and most exceptional concentration of "pueblos" in the southwestern United States.
