Please look at my reviews, where you will see that all my guests gave me Excellent / Rating of 10 Reviews! This is because I put a lot of effort into being a great host!

You will see that some reviews mention 'Manhattan skyline view' or an 'elevator' or a 'roofdeck'. These were details found in my previous apartment. My current listing/apartment does not have any of these items, though I DO still have a balcony and I DO have a view of planes descending to LGA airport.

Instead of staying in Manhattan and spending a 'stereotypical tourist' visit in NYC, why not stay in Queens and have a more authentic experience of living in a neighborhood with regular New Yorkers, and not a tourist in sight?. Plus you are still close enough to Manhattan and all the popular tourist sites! As said in Wikipedia.org:

"Queens is the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world with a population of over 2.2 million, 46% of whom are foreign-born, representing over 100 different nations and speaking over 138 different languages."

I live in the Queens neighborhood of Astoria, which is known for its Greek population, in addition to Italian, Mexican, Egyptian, Lebanese, Japanese, Brazilian and more!

I love hosting visitors (especially first-time visitors to New York) and helping them figure out what to do, what to see, and the best way to accomplish all of this while they are in NYC. (Though if you don't need or want such assistance, that's OK too!) I have been known to help many a guest with creating an 'itinerary' for their days, so that they maximize their time and visit sites that are located in proximity to each other.

I do not host on Wimdu purely for the money. I mainly do this because I love being helpful to people and giving them a nice place to rest their heads at night! ;-) Many other listings are by hosts who are renting out multiple rooms or apartments. I only rent out one space, and it is the space I myself live in, so indeed this is a very personal, shared experience for me. I've met some wonderful people that I've hosted (not on this site, but on another similar type site...) ;-)

I am here to help you with whatever you need while here in NYC. At the same time, I am always respectful of my guests' need for space and privacy. I take my cues from my guests. If they want to be sociable with me, great! If not, that's ok too!

This apartment would be shared between you and me, but no one else.

Here's what you can expect if you stay with me:

- a Queen size bed with a featherbed on top for added comfort.
- private bedroom with a view of planes descending to La Guardia airport
- warm flannel bedsheets in the Winter, and 100% cotton, high thread count bedsheets in the Summer
- big fluffy bath towels
- the apartment is kept very clean and has a modern, uncluttered design
- I have an extra mobile phone available for your use if you don't have a phone that will work in the U.S. You just need to bring the phone to any one of the nearby phone stores and buy a pre-paid card/chip for US$10 or so. This will allow you to send local text messages or short phone calls to make meeting plans with friends in NYC, etc.
- many ethnic restaurants nearby (Greek, Japanese, Italian, Mexican....)
- self-serve breakfast consisting of organic breads and cereals, Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, juices, organic milk, soy milk, rice milk, whole coffee beans to grind daily, etc.
- I have a high-speed blender and can make you fresh juice and/or vegetable drinks, smoothies, or freshly ground almond milk each day.. You can also make your own drinks if you like by using this blender. I will always have on-hand various components for making healthy drinks (apples, oranges, lemon, watermelon, kale/spinach, bananas, soy/almond milk, yogurt, flax seed, maca powder, etc).

The apartment is located in Astoria, Queens, an area that is popular not only due to its proximity to Manhattan (20 minutes to the Upper East Side section of Manhattan, 30 minutes to Midtown/Times Square), but is also popular for its ethnic diversity. It is a ten minute walk from the subway to my apartment. There are also two buses that can take you to the subway in 5 minutes.

Though I have only host a few guests through Wimdu, I have hosted many other guests through similar websites and have gotten favorable reviews from previous guests (and I can share those with you if you'd like).

There is only ONE RULE that I must stress here: I cannot allow for guests who have alot of luggage or otherwise your bedroom will feel too crowded and you will not be able to move around. Each guest can have one small or medium-sized suitcase and a small tote bag. Multiple suitcases per person are not allowed, nor are jumbo suitcases. I prefer guests who have done enough travelling in their life, that they have come to understand the benefits of 'travelling light'. (Note that the bedroom has two luggage racks on which you can place your suitcases.)

Here are the general dimensions of luggage:

Small: 22" x 14" x 19" (or 55.9 x 35.6 x 22.9cm) is the general size of luggage that you can carry with you onto the plane. This is the ideal size for my apartment! You could each have one suitcase of this size plus a small tote bag.

Medium: 25" x 17" x 11" (or 63.5 x 43.2 x 27.9cm) is the next larger size of suitcase. Each person could have one suitcase of this size, but no other suitcases even if they are smaller.

Jumbo: 28" x 19" x 12" (or 71.1 x 48.3 x 30.5cm) is the next larger size of suitcase. This is what I'd consider too large for my apartment.

I have TWO cats....

Lynn was a great host. She gave us a lot of tips, especialy at the first day when we were walking through the surroundings with her and had a diner in one of the greek restaurants.
Also, the room was very nice - clean, quiet and with a comfortable bed. We absolutly recommend staying with her.

lynn at it was great, she is very helpful and will help you with all where you no longer has. I can only say positive about this, a very adorable human being. the apartment just a dream, everything was very, very clean and well maintained and the outlook from their balcony of the madness, the look melted on the skylines only then. I was very, very comfortable with lynn and would definitely want to come back to her, and the two sweet cats were so cute. for me the most perfect trip I had jeh. THANK lynn for everything and the wonderful time we had :) :) :) :) lg claudia

I spent a week with Lynn. Her new apartment is in a well-kept apartment house with elevator and a beautiful roof - garden. The rooms and the roof garden have a stunning view over the skyline of Manhattan. The house is close to the subway to the center. The area is safe. The rooms are bright, friendly and really very clean and modern. Lynn is a nice, friendly, and helpful person. The whole time of my stay, I felt very well.
