DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE APARTMENT

Private entrance from street ensures total independence and the feeling that you are in your own home.

Upon entry, there is a hallway for storage of your stroller (if you have little ones). Double doors to the apartment lead to a very large living/dining room, 13 x 24 feet, with windows looking out onto our peaceful, tree-lined street. Furnishings: sofa for 2-3 people, daybed that doubles as a single bed for extra guests, a deep, comfortable, antique 'basket' armchair, end tables, a long, contemporary dining table with mid-century, upholstered dining chairs, a long sideboard with Bose ipod dock and a few books (including up-to-date guidebooks of NYC), 32' flat screen Sony TV with cable, and an antique sideboard topped with a slab of white marble.

In the center of the apartment, with a cut-out (pass-through) connecting it to the living room, the kitchen is huge by NY standards, 13 x 10 feet. It contains a stove with oven and broiler, refrigerator, microwave, large sink, dishwasher, electric kettle, toaster and many cupboards storing every kind of kitchen utensil and cookware you may need. Ample counter space, including two long, stainless steel professional kitchen counters/workspace.

A small hallway leads to the large bedroom with a new (2011) queen-size bed, huge closet and views on the garden. There is an air-conditioner in the bottom part of one of the two windows. Reading lamps and bed-side tables on either side of the bed. A desk with lamp and chair and a dresser makes this a well-equipped, perfect bedroom hideaway. There is also a full-length mirror.

Continuing through the hallway is a small, monastic bedroom with a new (2012) single bed and trundle single bed to pull out in the event that you need to sleep 2 people, closet and doorway to garden. There is a tall dresser with lamps. We have a portable crib with sheet, should you need it. Note that this is a very small bedroom. When both single beds are set up, it is crowded.

In January 2012, we did a gut renovation of the bathroom. It is beautiful and modern, with green-flecked Terrazzo floor tiles, white subway tiles, bathtub with shower, a large, white Caeserstone counter and undermount sink. Grohe faucets. Hooks and towel bars. Lighting on dimmers. A high-quality exhaust fan that is very quiet and efficient.

THE AREA OF FORT GREENE

Visit the famous Brooklyn Flea a few blocks away, the Olmsted designed park or the bustling Farmer's Market at the end of the block. Go to BAM, Brooklyn Academy of Music - the world-class arts venue a few blocks away - to see theatre, dance, music and films.

The neighborhood is filled with interesting restaurants, bars and shops. I grew up in New York City and lived in Paris for 10 years and I can tell you this is my favorite neighborhood, anywhere. Ever!

Near all major subway lines (12 different subways!) and only 15 minutes to busy downtown Manhattan. Walking distance to other great Brooklyn neighborhoods such as Park Slope, restaurant row in Cobble Hill and Prospect Heights, Pratt Institute, the mansions of Clinton Hill, the urban grit of Vinegar Hill and DUMBO.

Brooklyn at its very best!

Reviews of this property

10 Excellent

The apartment is in the basement and direct access to a small garden (note: mosquitoes). Quiet but central location. Very well equipped, especially the large kitchen. The bedroom has a (somewhat noisy) air conditioning, otherwise there are ceiling fans. Problem-Fi access. The environment is great, multicultural, safe. Lots of restaurants and wine bars also to sit outside. Deli Shops around the corner, large supermarket about 250 meters away. Beautiful park 120 meters away with playgrounds. Very good underground connections. Short routes to Manhattan Downtown - Wall Street etc. (depending on subway line 1 - 4 stations). Travel time to Uptown (Times Square) about 35 minutes. Very nice, uncomplicated knitted donors. Super suitable for families. I can highly recommend.

Very nice apartment both the practical point of view (the equipment is designed in detail) and aesthetic (sobriety and comfort). Very warm welcome from Nan. Perfect haven to recharge the batteries between 2 walks in New York.
