We offer fully inclusive art retreat holidays at our small arts retreat guest house in a sleepy riverside town in rural NE Thailand. We provide a combination of painting /photography tuition and a unique access to Thai rural culture. As we are far from the tourist centres, it is very safe and the people are open and friendly.
Professional tuition is provided by Australian artist Jeremy Holton and you will stay with him and his Thai wife, Waree, in a relaxed family atmosphere beside the Mekong River.
Jeremy will help you to find your inner voice and let the painting take over so that you are painting intuitively and creating unique works that grow naturally from your interaction with paint and canvas. This process allows you to escape reality and allows your imagination and natural ability to flourish.
We provide two courses.
Discoveries in Oil Pastel which which Jeremy teaches regularly at Murdoch University in Australia as part of the Extraordinary Minds Project . The basic course takes 4 three hour sessions. It is suitable for artists at all levels from beginners to experienced who wish to extend themselves and learn to take risks to reach their full creativity.
In Australia the class sizes are over 12 people, we limit it to a maximum of four which usually means one or two people so you are guaranteed individual attention. The process involves learning to destroy and recreate your work but In our experience every student who does this course produces unique paintings of a framable standard.
Creating in oils which is only taught at our guest house. This is suitable for anybody who wants to take their art to a new level in a master class environment. In it Jeremy works with the artist to teach them his techniques in oils and acrylics. Typically this involves letting yourself go completely immersed in the painting process to the point where you have no idea what you are doing. This is done in textured acrylics.
Then developing the work in quick drying oils so that new breathtaking images emerge full of idiosyncrasies and imagination. Paint is dragged over texture using colour shapers and then colours are enriched and modified with multiple layers of glaze. The results can be seen in Jeremy’s gallery at jeremyholton.com. This course has no fixed timeframe and Jeremy is available to work with you whatever hours you wish.

Over a decade ago, Jeremy visited Thailand and fell in love with the country, the culture and the people. Since then he has been living on and off in a small village in rural NE Thailand, with his wife Waree and their two young boys. In 2012 they found a wonderful building with land going down to the Mekong River in a small town not far from their village. They renovated it to a small high quality arts guesthouse.
They wanted to combine art with introducing their guests to the amazing unspoilt local environment and people. So Jeremy teaches and Waree takes our guests to many fascinating places many of which are only accessible to local Thai people. A taste for the great variety of activities can be seen at our website Thailand-painting-holidays.com
We can only take bookings with at least 7 days as you will need that amount of time to discover the Thai culture and if you decide to have painting tuition. Our changeover day is Saturday as this reduces trips to the airport and as we only have two rooms its very difficult when one is occupied for part of a week. However, we try to be as flexible as possible so contact us if you can’t fit a Saturday to Saturday visit in and we will work something out for you.
