The Alfama Quarter is the oldest one in Lisbon, and it was founded by the Arabs who named it “Al-hama” (the fountains). It is difficult to believe that this humble neighbourhood was once the most desirable quarter of Lisbon. For the Moors, the tightly packed alleyways around the fortified castle comprised the whole city.
The buildings survived the 1755 earthquake and although there are no Moorish houses still standing, the quarter retains its kashbah-like-layout. The true charm of these quarters lies in its narrow steep streets ending in sunny squares from which there are stairways leading to typical streets and flowery alleys and fountains. This is where you can find the most genuine traditional commerce, far away from the big hypermarkets, with neighbourhood groceries, fruit stands, modest restaurants, and all purpose stores. The only way to get to know these quarters is to stroll through them. Embark on this adventure, let your intuition guide you and get lost in these streets and alleys to the sound of Fado.
Above Alfama the imposing, majestic and sober Castelo de São Jorge (Castle of Saint Jorge), crowns Lisbon´s most important eastern hill. This natural vantage point, was a defensive stronghold and royal palace until the end of the 16th century.
Other Attractions are a few steps away. You will need to climb just a few streets to find yourself in front of the Pantheon, or at the Flea Market (If you are interested in antique stuff and second hand bargains you can find almost everything at the Feira da Ladra flea Market every Saturday and Tuesday in Campo de Santa Clara). To eat there are quite a few cheap typical Portuguese tascas around, but if you are more into sophisticated stuff don´t miss the Bica do Sapato restaurant (co-owned by the actor John Malkovich), Lisbon´s hippest and trendiest restaurant, or the Faz Figura restaurant featuring Portuguese specialties and an impressive city and river views. Here, the visitor will be also close to the most recent and trendiest night-life routes, beginning in the new Alfama fado parlours and ending up in Clube Ferroviário or at the famous and trendy Lux nightclub.

BICA, nice views over the river, nice location

Perfekte Lage direkt im Zentrum (alles zu Fuß erreichbar), leider war die Waschmaschine defekt, es gab keinen Haarfön und die Schlafzimmertüren konnte man nicht schließen (komplett verzogen), wir würden trotzdem wieder buchen

JARDIM BOTÂNICO - a large terrace in Principe Real

Appartement très bien situé. Jorge relativement disponible.
Quelques détails sur le sejour:
2 salles de bain, mais l'arrivée d'eau chaude est sportive!!! Plus facile d'accès dans celle avec la baignoire.
Grille pain, HS.
mini cafetière, OK.
Équipement cuisine, pas mal.
La terrasse extérieure super sympa, vérifier qu'il y ait des ampoules....

Transfert aéroport- appartement possible, c'est super, et c'est Jorge qui s' en est occupé, Super! (58€ pour 5 pour l'A/R), mais la chauffeur nous avait oublié pour le retour.... Merci Jorge qui nous a trouvé une solution d'urgence.

VALE DEL SOL - terrace, elevator, air conditioning

Not bad at all but not that special either. Pretty close to what we could expect from the information given on the web when we booked. Not impressive in any way and rather narrow, with really bad storage for clothes and shoes. Nice with elevator when coming home after a long walk.
Good reception of the caretaker and (as it later turned out) a good location in Lisbon for tourists as us. Quiet and good neighborhood and (given the city's size and complex road network) quite close to most things that you want to see.
Next door to a small but very good neighborhood store, that had most of needed food, fruit and household goods and whose owner spoke a little English. Very friendly!
Some poor maintenance of the apartment though, such as broken lights i.e. House caretaker saw this at the presentation but just shrugged and didn't bother to come back with new lights or to fix it.
It can well be Wimdu again if we are going to Lisbon, but a little doubtful if we take the same apartment in that case. If so it would be because of the location in the city and the pleasant storekeeper.

QUINTINHA TERRACE - Sunny apartment next to bairro alto

The apartment was very good for our stay - big rooms and nice outdoor terrace at the back. It is well equipped and fairly quiet for the location. Jorge´s colleague met us when we arrived.

Wonderful apartment with Lisbon's greatest view. I would definitely recommend this apartment. The bed was though not good.

Principe Real I up to 2 guests with king size bed

Die Unterkunft war sehr toll - eine sehr schöne, geräumige und gepflegte Altbauwohnung mitten in der Lissabonner Altstadt mit guten Anbindungen zur Metro, Bus und Innenstadt. Wir waren schon traurig, wieder abreisen zu müssen.

Helle und luftige Wohnung mit wirklich herrlichem Blick, der Tag und Nacht lohnt!
Chiado ist 5 Minuten entfernt. Man taucht richtig ein in Lissabon. Supermarkt in der Nähe. Gut ausgestattete Küche. Verbrachten sehr entspannte Tage dort

Appartamento comodo e centrale, ben tenuto, buona organizzazione. a pochi metri super mercato, macelleria, pescheria e farmacia. Perfetto !!
