The Alfama Quarter is the oldest one in Lisbon, and it was founded by the Arabs who named it “Al-hama” (the fountains). It is difficult to believe that this humble neighbourhood was once the most desirable quarter of Lisbon. For the Moors, the tightly packed alleyways around the fortified castle comprised the whole city.
The buildings survived the 1755 earthquake and although there are no Moorish houses still standing, the quarter retains its kashbah-like-layout. The true charm of these quarters lies in its narrow steep streets ending in sunny squares from which there are stairways leading to typical streets and flowery alleys and fountains. This is where you can find the most genuine traditional commerce, far away from the big hypermarkets, with neighbourhood groceries, fruit stands, modest restaurants, and all purpose stores. The only way to get to know these quarters is to stroll through them. Embark on this adventure, let your intuition guide you and get lost in these streets and alleys to the sound of Fado.
Above Alfama the imposing, majestic and sober Castelo de São Jorge (Castle of Saint Jorge), crowns Lisbon´s most important eastern hill. This natural vantage point, was a defensive stronghold and royal palace until the end of the 16th century.
Other Attractions are a few steps away. You will need to climb just a few streets to find yourself in front of the Pantheon, or at the Flea Market (If you are interested in antique stuff and second hand bargains you can find almost everything at the Feira da Ladra flea Market every Saturday and Tuesday in Campo de Santa Clara). To eat there are quite a few cheap typical Portuguese tascas around, but if you are more into sophisticated stuff don´t miss the Bica do Sapato restaurant (co-owned by the actor John Malkovich), Lisbon´s hippest and trendiest restaurant, or the Faz Figura restaurant featuring Portuguese specialties and an impressive city and river views. Here, the visitor will be also close to the most recent and trendiest night-life routes, beginning in the new Alfama fado parlours and ending up in Clube Ferroviário or at the famous and trendy Lux nightclub.

ALFAMA S. RAFAEL 4 - low budget and great location

Fantastisk beliggenhed midt i den gamle del af byen, ved den gamle bymur hvor mange guider viser turrist selskaber dette sted.
Centralt for hele hele byen.
Lejligheden var god, med 2 soveværelser og bad en trappe oppe.
Om aftenen omdannes pladsen uden for vor hoveddøren til en udendørs restaurant
"Fado/Restaurante" med klassisk Portugesisk gitarspil og sang. En stor oplevelse.

Combro 2 - 7pax flat in Bairro Alto

Lägenheten ligger idealiskt i den äldre delen av Lissabon. Nära till restauranger, barer och shopping. Vi använde oss av Marios transport för att komma till golfbanorna, vilket funkade bra. Lägenhet är av äldre modell med något slitna möbler. Uteplatsen kan liknas vid en rastgård på Kumla. En 3-kant på ca 20 kvadrat, med höga väggar på alla sidor och himmel uppåt.
Inte helt prisvärd.

COSTA DO CASTELO - Blue haven next to the Castle

Prachtig appartement, met alles er op en er aan. Sfeervol, modern en zeer centraal gelegen. Bij aankomst hartelijk ontvangen door de eigenaresse, die ons zag wachten op de hostess. Ook nog eens prachtig weer.

ALFAMA S. RAFAEL 4 - low budget and great location

Schlüsselübergabe war Problemlos, alles super. Die Wohnung war nicht wirklich sauber, aber sonst wie beschrieben bzw. wie auf den Fotos. Das gr.Bett war voll O.K. Die Einzelbetten war durchgelegen. In der Küche war das nötigste, was für ein Frühstück machen gereicht hat.

Apartamento muy bien situado, en el centro de lisboa cerca de todo!! Tambien tiene cerca un parking economico para dejar el coche. Apartamento limpio y muy bien el unico fallo el wifi no va muy bien por lo demas genial!!

Die Wohnung liegt sehr zentral im wunderschönen Stadtteil Alfama. Sie ist optimal mit Bus oder U-Bahn zu erreichen. Die Einrichtung ist zweckdienlich und entsprach unseren Erwartungen. Einzig die Küchenausstattung war sehr übersichtlich. Uns fehlten vor allem Topfdeckel und die eine oder andere Tasse mehr, wäre schön gewesen. Wir würden die Wohnung wieder buchen.

BICA, nice views over the river, nice location

Wir hatten wunderbare Tage in ihrer Wohnung! Die Aussicht ist umwerfend! Nicht nur auf den Fluss sondern aus allen Fenstern (schade waren sie nicht ganz sauber). Alles funktionierte einwandfrei (Küche, Bad, wifi super schnell, genügend Geschirr, saubere Wäsche). Auch die Lage ist gut, mit Bus 714 erreicht man schnell alle wichtigen Anschlussorte.
Wir haben die Tage sehr genossen! Danke für alles!

Casa Fresca

Sehr schöne, neu eingerichtete, geräumige und ruhige Wohnung.
Alles da, ob in der Küche, Schlafzimmer oder im Bad.
Ideal für zwei Personen, aber auch Platz für drei oder vier Personen.
Verbesserungsvorschlag---einen zweiten Zugang zum Bad., denn die dritte Person muss durchs Schlafzimmer. Leider!
Die Wohnung liegt gut, Busslinien und Einkaufsmöglichkeit sind direkt um die Ecke.
Es lohnt sich, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt, jeder Zeit wieder.
