The building in which the studio is located, is a typical 1940’s building, right next to a historic fountain called Tomtom Kaptan Fountain, and Tomtom Kaptan Mosque. When we undertook the renovation of the building, we tried our best to safeguard the architectural details of the 40’s.
The studio is on the fourth floor, and it is brand new. It receives direct sunlight, it is very plain, functional, elegant and design. We had it decorated together with one of the city’s fastest growing design studios, who are also our friends. The floors are wooden, bathroom is tile covered, the main door is heavy steel. There is everything you need in a house! One French bed, one sofa; cotton bed sheets and towels (white, white, always white!); a fully equipped brand new kitchen where you can cook very comfortably (stove, refrigerator, kettle, toaster, microwave oven, French press, pots, white ceramic plates, bowls, spices, olive oil, vinegar). And also AC, hair dryer, washing machine, TV, cable TV, and internet connection.
On the same floor with the studio, we have a large terrace from where you can see a typical panorama of the city with its seagulls, Haghia Sofia, Topkapi Palace and Sultanahmet Mosque. The terrace is open for your enjoyment at any time!
Our studio’s building is located in the historic neighborhood Tophane, on Boğazkesen Street. Many new art galleries, recently opened on this street, are home to an artistic event called “Tophane Artwalk”. You will be able to walk to many of the places you will want to visit! If you turn right from the main building entrance, in 5 minutes you will find yourself at Karaköy, the city’s historic harbour district, hosting today Istanbul’s best cafe’s, bars and art galleries. If you turn left from the building, a 5 minute walk will lead you to Istiklal Avenue, Grande Rue de Péra, with a length of 1400 meters, unarguably Turkey’s longest walking street and the most popular since the 19th century.
If you walk straight ahead of you for 1 minute, you will enter the neighborhood called Çukurcuma, the most bohemian area of Istanbul where the best vintage and antique shops are. If you walk towards the back of the building, you will come to what we call “Little Italy”, the area which, during the Ottoman period, used to be the center where diplomatic missions are located (The French Palace, the old French Court building, The Italian Palace, The Italian High School, The Spanish Church of Santa Maria Draperis, The Dutch Palace, The Russian Consulate), the little square from which little streets lead back to the Istiklal Avenue.
As we have said, you will be able to walk almost everywhere. But should you need to go further: Tramway: The Tophane Station is at 3 minute walking distance. After two stops you arrive to the Eminonu Station, where must see places such as the Spice Market, New Mosque, Tahtakale are located. After 5 stops from Tophane, Sultanahmet Stop is right where the main monuments of the historic peninsula are: Haghia Sofia, Topkapi Palace, Basilic Cistern etc. And 6 stops after Tophane Stop, the station called Çemberlitaş is at the bazaars district: this is where the Grand Bazaar is Boat (Vapur): This transport is Istanbul most important identity symbol, you must try it!
If you walk for 15 minutes to the Karakoy boat pier, you can take the vapor and cross the Bosphorus to the other side, i.e. the Asian of Anatolian side of Istanbul. You can reach the most typical Asian side neighborhoods such as Kadikoy, Moda, Uskudar, and also the Prince Islands. Sea Motor: When inner city maritime public transport belongs to a private company instead of the municipality, we call it “the motor”. Again if you take the tramway from Tophane, afer two stops you reach Eminonu Station. From there you can take the motor to take an Istanbul Bosphorus Tour.
Metro: Take the tramway from Tophane, two stops later it’s Kabataş Station (this is the opposite direction from Eminonu). From Kabataş you can take the funicular line up to Taksim and there take the metro towards Istanbul’s financial district Levent-Maslak and further to the Bosphorus’ Northern parts, where the historic neighborhood Sariyer is. Taxi: It costs about 20-25 euros from the airport to Tophane neighborhood where our flat is located.

Nice studio right within the old (Pera) and present (Beyoglu) heart of Istanbul. In walking distance to public transport (tram), nightlife (old Pera district) and culture (e.g. Istanbul Modern Museum). Roof terrace to watch urban life and celebrate sunset. Didem was a very friendly an uncomplicated host. We will come again !
Nice little apartment and nice rooftop, the neighborhood was quiet but very near to tasksim, nice cafés around. Ece was very uncomplicated, a pleasure.
What a great feeling to have your own apartment in Istanbul, to feel at home in your neighborhood street where you buy whatever you need for a nice breakfast or apéritif on the roof top in your favorite grocery store, bakery, börek or pizza store. In walking distance you find Taksim Square, Istiklal Street, Galata Tower, the tram stop to old Istanbul, the landing stage of the boat to the asian part of Istanbul. Highly recommanded!
We stayed five nights for two in the lovely, modern and centrally located apartment of Ece and Didem guest. One can very well walk to explore the local surroundings: Istiklal Street, Galata Tower, Galata Bridge, Istanbul Modern, etc. The "Museum of Innocence" by Orhan Pamuk is the road just opposite. Ece and Didem are always attainable: we once had a problem with the gas boiler and therefore no hot water, Ece has sent over within 15 minutes someone and we had hot water again!
Very nice, modern and central located flat. You can walk to Istiklal Caddesi, Galatatower and Galatabridge. We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful flat very much!
Thank you Ece and Didem
Very nice, modern und central located flat. You can walk to İstiklâl Caddesi, Galatatower and Galatabridge. We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful flat very much!
Thank you Ece and Didem
Great apartment in one of the most interesting neighborhoods in istanbul. It’s well designed, very clean and you will find there everything you need (even a washing machine). Plus a very special feature on top – the roof-terrace!
All in all the perfect place for a perfect stay in istanbul.
