THE AZULEJO'S APARTMENT:

A large bedroom has double bed with Art Nouveau handpainted Azulejos (tiles) on the wall. A second bedroom will suit one additional person. A living room with a sofa and a cosy kitchen all in blue and yellow colors is ready for you to prepare and have your meals. Finally the simple bathroom with a large shower is open to the backyard.

The AzulejosApartment respects the Portuguese tradition of the buildings of the 30’s : elegant wood floors, high ceilings and Azulejos (portuguese handpainted tiles) on the walls. From this district (Campo de Ourique) which kept its popular and quiet village soul in the middle of the big city, the famous 28 tramway will drive you to the historical center in less than 20 minutes going through the main monuments of the city until the Castle of S. Jorge).

The main entrance of the building is pretty with its wooden stairs leading to the Azulejo's flat on 1st floor. From the living room, you´ll have nice views of gardens and patios in the backyards of the building and a surprising sight of the Amoreiras district. This entire accommodation has been renovated and modernised while keeping its original attributes like the kitchen with its stone fireplace.

The Azulejo's Apartment provides you all commodities for a short stay to discover Lisbon, as it is well connected with the historical centre by walking, by public transportations or by taxi (not expensive in Portugal).

THE AREA AROUND THE APARTMENT:

Between Basilica of Estrela and Prazeres, the Campo de Ourique district is at the same time a residential and shopping neighbourhood with its own life. Very animated on week days around the covered market where all the best fish, gorgeous fruit and fresh vegetables are sold. It is also here that Fernando Pessoa ("The Poet of the poets") had spent the last 15 years of his life, in a house today converted into a museum. Many restaurants, typical bars, "cafés", many little shops around where you’ll meet the inhabitants of the area. Here people still say hello to each other when they meet in the streets like in the old days. In the middle of Campo de Ourique there is a garden (Jardim da Parada) with its hundred-year-old trees, its ducks and other farm birds wandering around, and old men like to spend some time here playing cards. Coffe shop with a large esplane under the threes and the children play in the garden where all the generations are mixed.This district is very well connected to the rest of the city via buses or the tramway (eléctrico) No 28.

Easily accessible by public transport: tram No. 28 (Prazeres, Estrela, São Bento, Bairro Alto, Chiado, Baixa, Castelo de São Jorge, Graça Feira da Ladra), Tram No. 25 (from the nearby basilic and the beautiful “Jardim da Estrela” to Santos) bus No. 709, Rossio, Downtown area (Baixa) and Terreiro do Paço (Praça do Comércio), just by the river and the No. 758 bus running through the city, leaving Cais do Sodré, passing through the Bairro Alto, Principe Real, stopping at the Amoreiras Shopping Center near Campo de Ourique with its cinemas, supermarkets and direct access to the highway from Cascais and Caparica (+ / - 30 minutes to the beaches).

Un trato muy correcto por parte de los propietarios. El apartamento estaba muy limpio y con todas las prestaciones necesarias. El barrio es muy tranquilo. Estamos muy satisfechos de nuestra estancia en Lisboa

Hemos viajado 3 personas y solo hemos utilizado el apartamento para descansar. Es pequeño pero muy bonito y lo tiene todo. Está en un barrio tranquilo y cerca hay supermercados, cafeterías, restaurantes... y con transporte público o coche desplazas con mucha facilidad a cualquier sitio. Se encuentra aparcamiento con facilidad.
Teresa nos recibió amablemente, nos facilitó planos y nos dio la información que necesitábamos para empezar a movernos. Estuvo a nuestra disposición por ni necesitábamos algo. Todo bien.

Being in a typical Portuguese residential area (rather than a tourist 'hot-spot') was really good for us. We enjoyed the area, the genuine friendliness and hospitality of the people, and the value for money was excellent. The public transport into and around Lisbon was also excellent value (especially if using the pre-payment cards available from news-agents) and very reliable. The local railway station was able to take us to Sintra as well.

I suspect that anyone visiting Lisbon will need to be able to walk. Even with the availability of public transport, it's difficult to avoid the hills - which are part of Lisbon's charm but will present a challenge for some.

Teresa and Pedro could not have been more helpful with advice about local facilities and transport, and to resolve any minor issues. Daily contact was possible, but not needed.

The accommodation faced north and, with the high ceilings, meant we could come back to a comparatively cool flat even on a day when temperatures had reached 30degreesC.

Overall it was an excellent stay, and we hope that others get as much pleasure from staying here as we did.
